maryland. there is still some rain and snow shower to the west, but they are a little overdone an the radar loop. taking a closer look here, you can see these are lightly scattered rain and snow showers. i don't expect these to produce much accumulation, however, the wind will continue to be a factor tonight and through the day tomorrow in particular. wind gusts reaching 40 at a minimum. high wind advisory up. we have seen gusts up to 40 wilmington. right as it crossed central maryland, it is below freezing in frederick and's ton. so tonight, 34, some rain and snow, windy. we will talk about how things will change through the day tomorrow and the next storm pushing in saturday. all those di tails coming up. >> thanks wyatt everhart.

that wind is already causing problems. we checked with people in towson. no street lights or home lights. we are seeing power outages. we have watched bge's power outage numbers. 1800 people are in the dark right no. not too bad. most in hartford and baltimore counties. as we brace for high wind, the highway administration is warning people to stay off the road until morning because they would freeze overnight. but driving here shh nothing compared to the midwest. record snow on the ground tonight in the midwest. these pictures are from indiana. airports being caused problems. the same storm system is showing tornadoes in the south. it is those storms impacting us. lots of problems here at the

baltimore washington thurgood international airport. cleveland, denver. canceled, delayed. we have the latest traffic delays and travel delays. log onto abc2news.com/traffic. well, they each loaned hiss company thousands of dollars, but now former friends of a baltimore sales man are fighting him in co . they say they fronted huge amounts of money for hal katz's business. some of them are regular joes that loaned their friend all the money they saved. >> you know him from tv. the pitch man who plays loud music points to the screen and says he can put you behind this wheel. some of hal katz's friends see him differently. >> i didn't dislike him, but i came to think he was not a good

businessman. >> michael cohen may know katz better than most. for years, he was the attorney to the insurance agency. he invested more than a million dollars of his money in the financial arm of katz's business. >> obviously, when you enter an arrangement like this, you have to have trust. i'm disappointed the trust wasn't warranted. >> it's a discovery he made last fall. as abc2 news investigators first told you last november. katz's license was revoked to sell insurance as he committed fraudulent practices. $2million are missing from insurance payment plan. the lending arm of his company with more man a dozen creditors

including michael cohen left on the hook. >> everybody as far as i know had some personal relationship with hall katz and so essentially, it's not only just a question of misappropriation of money, but it's a betrayal of trust. >> and it may be a costly mistake in judgment for friends and family. some of whom cohen says lost their college funds, their retirement money and live savings. some put in hundreds of thousands of dollars. now they have taken ipp to bankruptcy court to try to get it back from the man they said they trusted! he is either delusional or sociopathic. when you take money from people not yours, it is not 2 right thing to do. >> we reached out to hal katz but got no response. before, he -- may get to hear

from hal katz next month. there ear a hearing set. it will be up to the trustee to trace where the money is and how much is left. well new tonight, two fires. the first here out of the temple hill areas. two firefighters were hurt: one started on colbrook drive. 13 people live in the home. they all got out safely. the other in green belt county. one person was rescued, another jumped from the window to escape. breaking news from last night. a police officer shot and killed a man who was threatening him. 26-year-old edward becker was killed. his parents called 911 because becker was breaking out the windows in his father's pick up truck. >> the officers responded, saw

the subject and approached him advising him to put down the weapon. >> becker didn't listen and waved the himmer at the officer who shot him. he had a problem with alcohol. the officer who shot becker is on routine administrative lead while police investigate. the coach of the university of maryland football team -- he was 77 years old. baltimore will be represented at the probowl in hawaii. the nfl's version of the all star game. they will send five players, only three teams in the nfl, san francisco, houston, and new england will have more player ins the probowl than the

ravens. ray lewis is not on the roster. the move is just a procedure real one that makes him eligible to play in the post season. the ravens clinched the north division already. tomorrow marks a first for our state. maryland live casino will open their doors and never close again. since opening, they have closed at 2:00 a.m. on weeknights, 4:00 a.m. on weekend. maryland live is preparing more changes in the future as well thank to the passage of question seven. table games will be coming soon. also tomorrow, it is back to work for politicians in washington. president obama and others are traveling back to get in session. if republicans and democrats can't agree, the session won't meet. every american will be hit with higher taxes new year's day

because of the fiscal cliff. a teacher with $43,000 a year will get a tax hike of more than $3,000 a year. a professional athlete would see his taxes go up more than 2.4 million a year. unemployment benefits for some 2 million people would expire. the nation may fall back into a recession. even star bucks is getting into the fight on the fiscal cliff. their ceo wants workers to write come together on the coffee cups they serve thursday and friday. it's the company's way of telling the politicians to find common grounds. >> if people would get in the room and leave their ego behind, but be so sensitive to the'ds of the american people, we would have an agreement.

see a lot of new percipitation. there could be some icy spots tonight as temperatures begin to drop. but right now, it is a wild countries statewide. you see the temperatures in the mid 30s to freezing to the west and from baltimore east ward, we are in the low 30s . it's an unusual set up with the area of low pressure. winter weather concerns, tough travels to the west with the icy conditions. always, the wind, the other local weather wild card not just tonight but tomorrow, we are really going to see the atmosphere mix out a little bit. high wind advisories thursday statewide. expanded into the eastern shore, but overall, the storm continues to blow out and the big concern is going to be wind and what a wild and large system it has been. and in fact, we have video to show you. what this storm did in alabama, tearing through that state to

the south. christmas day tornadoes. look at this! a massive wedge tornado down there in alabama. just showing you the strength, the warm side, the warm sector of the storm producing severe weather. look at the power flashes, transformers going down in mobile. back here in maryland today, the storm impacting us in a very different way with snow at times, two to three inches across much of baltimore. north and west of the city and changing to rain. laurel. and how about a look at baltimore today. again, it was a snowy scenario until noon. tonight, we have rain, wind di conditions. dew point, 44. moist air in place. could see reduced visibility with rain and wind. could be a sloppy mess with the slush still hanging out.

here is the set up for the trends. clearing skies. wednesday, up, temperatures keep falling, a raw, chilly day north and west of us. windchill in the 20s tomorrow. this storm moves out which shifting our attention to what happens after the storm. in the immediate wake of the storm, it will just be windy and cold. then we will watch through the day tomorrow and thursday as the second storm develops in the texas coast area. we believe it will arrive mid- morning saturday. depending on the precise track how much rain versus snow. right now, one to two inch around the 95 corridor seem to be a good bet. perhaps we get a lit 8 more than that, perhaps a little less. tonight, no more accumulation. what you got is what you got. tomorrow, a cold blustery day
